Small Flood (Chinese: Xiao Hong Quan / 小洪拳) is one of the oldest, most important and most fundamental forms in traditional Shaolin Kung Fu. It is known as the “mother of all Shaolin forms”, because it carries every key technical principle, movement and stance a beginner has to own before moving on to harder techniques.
This workshop gives it three days. No rushing through the material, no skipping steps. On the first day we set the foundations, on the second we build the form movement by movement, and on the third we consolidate it and look at what the movements actually mean in practice.
Programme
Friday, 2 October, 17:00-18:30
Introduction to the workshop. Techniques of the form, stances and basic kicks - everything the form rests on, before we take it on as a whole.
Saturday, 3 October, 9:00-12:00
Working through the first third of the form. A detailed explanation of every movement, plenty of repetition and a practical approach: why the hand sits where it sits, and where the power comes from.
Sunday, 4 October, 9:00-12:00
Repetition, refining the details and building on them. We close with the applications - what the movements really mean - and partner work.
Who it is for
The workshop is open to anyone interested in traditional forms. No previous experience is required, as Friday starts from the basics. If you already train Kung Fu, you will get the detail and the applications that regular classes rarely have time to take all the way.
What to bring
Comfortable training clothes, indoor shoes or bare feet, and a bottle of water. It adds up to seven and a half hours of training, so come rested and fed.
Sign-up and prices
You can sign up for the whole three-day programme or for single days.
- Friday: €30
- Saturday: €45
- Sunday: €45
- Saturday + Sunday: €75
- Full workshop (Friday-Sunday): €99
For the fullest experience we recommend all three days, as the material builds up step by step.
Place and spaces
We train in the Body.Mind Ljubljana hall at Ziherlova cesta 44. Places are limited, because in form work everyone needs to be corrected on their own movement - sign-ups close once the hall is full.
