Qi Gong in Ljubljana
Meditation in motion: slow sequences, breath and standing practice that release tension and settle the nervous system. Suitable at any age and level of fitness.
Qi Gong is meditation in motion. Slow, soft sequences where the breath leads the movement and the movement quiets the mind. What looks simple from outside asks for your full attention.
Qi Gong (氣功) is an old Chinese practice in which the breath leads the movement and the movement quiets the mind. The sequences are slow and soft, so from the outside they look simple - from the inside they ask for your full attention. That is exactly their strength: while the joints open and the spine lengthens, the nervous system switches from constant readiness to rest. After a session the head is clearer and the shoulders sit lower.
The practice suits anyone, whatever their age or fitness: people who sit a lot and feel tension in the neck, shoulders and lower back, those who sleep poorly or find it hard to switch off, and anyone who would like to exercise but is not drawn to intense sports. Nothing is forced - movement goes to the edge of comfort and no further - which is why Qi Gong is often the first choice after an injury or during recovery, always in agreement with the teacher.
We practise Qi Gong in our hall at Ziherlova 44 in Ljubljana: the beginners group meets on Mondays and Wednesdays at 17:30, and the morning group combines it with Kung Fu on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:00. A short Chan meditation is part of every session. You can join at any time; all you need to start is comfortable clothing.

Our approach
Nothing is forced - movement goes to the edge of comfort and no further. Because the practice is soft, it also suits people with injuries or in recovery, always in agreement with the teacher.
How a session goes
- 10 min Settling We take a stance, steady the breath and turn attention inward.
- 25 min Movement sets Soft, slow sequences that open the joints and release tension.

- 10 min Closing Quiet breathing and a short meditation.
Frequently asked questions
How is Qi Gong different from yoga and Tai Chi?
Yoga is built mainly on postures and stretching; Tai Chi is a martial art performed slowly. Qi Gong is simpler than both: short, repeating sequences anyone can learn, with the emphasis on breath and inner attention. That makes it a good entry point even for people who have never trained before.
Do I need to be flexible?
No. The movements are soft and performed within your current range of motion. Flexibility is a result of the practice, not a requirement for it.
Does Qi Gong help with back pain and stress?
Regular practitioners most often notice less tension in the shoulders and lower back, deeper breathing and better sleep. Qi Gong is not a substitute for medical treatment, though - if you have a health condition, talk to your doctor before starting and let us know about it.
When will I notice the effects?
You feel the relaxation after the very first session. Lasting changes - less tension, better posture, a calmer mind - come with regularity: twice a week over a few weeks does more than an occasional intense effort.
Can I practise while recovering from an injury?
Often yes, because the practice is gentle and can be adapted. Tell the teacher what limits you and you will work within a range that suits you. With more serious conditions, check with your doctor first.
