Kung Fu in Ljubljana

Traditional Kung Fu for adults and children: forms, Sanshou and self-defence in small groups where the teacher corrects each student individually.

Kung Fu teacher with students in the hall during training

Traditional Kung Fu teaches the body precision and the mind patience. It is not about speed or raw strength - it is about control, where every step has a reason and a place.

Kung Fu here is neither a fitness class with a martial flavour nor a competitive sport. It is a traditional Chinese art learned step by step: stances and basic movements first, then forms - sequences in which every movement is there for a reason - and alongside them Sanshou, partner work where what you have learned is tested with strikes, kicks and grappling under control. Body and mind are built together: strength without loading the joints, coordination, balance and a calm that holds up under pressure.

Classes take place in our hall at Ziherlova 44 in Ljubljana. Adults can choose between the morning group (Monday, Tuesday and Thursday at 6:00), the afternoon beginners group (Monday and Wednesday at 18:30) and the regular afternoon group (Tuesday and Thursday at 18:00). Children have their own group twice a week in the afternoon. Groups are small, so a beginner is never left to their own devices.

You can join at any time of the year. For your first visit you need nothing but comfortable sports clothes and water; no prior experience is required and fitness builds as you go. If you are not sure whether Kung Fu is for you, come for a single visit - no commitment, no expectations.

Why practise it

  • Strength built gradually, without loading the joints
  • Coordination and balance you notice in everyday movement
  • Confidence that grows out of controlling your own body
  • Practical self-defence skills

Our approach

Everyone starts from their own baseline. We measure ourselves against last week, not against each other. The teacher corrects as you go, individually, even in a group.

How a session goes

  1. 10 min Warm-up Joints, spine and breath. The body is prepared so training builds rather than drains.
  2. 20 min Basics and forms Stances, steps and sequences. Repetition here is a tool, not a punishment.
  3. 20 min Sanshou Strikes, kicks and grappling with a partner - controlled and never competitive.
  4. 10 min Cool-down Stretching and breath, letting the body settle.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need prior experience or good fitness?

No. Most of our students started with no martial arts background. Training progresses gradually and the teacher adapts the movements to where you are right now. Fitness and flexibility come with regular practice.

Am I too old for Kung Fu?

You are not. Our adult groups range from people in their twenties to their sixties. Because this is a traditional art and not a competitive sport, the pace adapts to the person, not the other way round.

Can I get hurt doing Sanshou?

Partner work is controlled and never competitive; protective gear is used when needed. The goal is not to beat your partner but to understand the movement. Injuries are rare with this way of training.

What should I bring to my first class?

Comfortable sports clothes, water and a towel. We train barefoot or in clean indoor trainers used only in the hall. Arrive about ten minutes early so we can meet.

How much does it cost and how do I sign up?

Prices and packages are in the price list below: monthly and three-month memberships, a ten-visit pass, a single visit and an annual pass. Sign up online or simply come to a class.
