A Qi Gong course in Ljubljana: when it starts, how long it runs, who it is for

Qi Gong is not memorised. It is repeated until the body recognises it.

People looking for Qi Gong in Ljubljana almost always ask the same three things: when does it start, is it too late to begin, and is one hour a week enough to change anything. This piece answers all three without hedging.

When it starts

Never and always. We do not run seasonal courses that begin in a fixed week and finish after twelve sessions. You can join at any point in the year - a Monday in mid-October works exactly as well as the first week of September.

That is not organisational sloppiness. It follows from how Qi Gong is learned. The exercises are not a sequence of lessons where the third builds on the second and a missed week leaves a hole. Every class is complete in itself: warm-up, a few movements, breathing, settling. Someone arriving for the first time does the same movements as someone who has been there three years - only slower and with fewer details. A teacher in a group never works with a single level.

Afternoon Qi Gong runs Mondays and Wednesdays, 17.30 to 18.30. Kung Fu follows immediately after, 18.30 to 19.30, so you can stay for both or leave after the first. The 6 a.m. class is mixed - Kung Fu, Qi Gong and Sanshou in one hour.

The first thing Qi Gong changes is not the movement. It is the breath.

What an hour looks like

The hour is sixty minutes and follows roughly the same arc every time.

The first ten minutes are loosening: joints from the neck down, shoulders, hips, ankles. Nothing remarkable, but it matters, because most people arrive from work where they have not moved for eight hours.

Then the main part - slow, repeating movements matched to the breath. We do them standing, mostly on the spot. No jumping, no joint loading, no competing with the person next to you. The movement is simple; what is hard is doing it slowly and completely, without your mind running ahead of it.

The last ten minutes settle things: standing, breathing, sometimes a short meditation. You leave more awake than tired, which is usually what surprises people most.

What you need

Comfortable clothes you can bend in. That is the whole list. We train barefoot, so no shoes, and no mat, props or special equipment. A bottle of water is welcome, though you sweat far less in Qi Gong than in Kung Fu.

For a first class you need to bring nothing else. If you decide to stay, signing up takes five minutes afterwards.

Who it suits - and who it does not

Qi Gong is one of the few practices where age is barely a limit. Our afternoon group runs from people in their thirties to people in their seventies, and the difference between them is smaller than you would expect. It works particularly well for people who:

sit at work and have a stiff upper back; cannot wind down after Kung Fu or running; carry an injury that rules out harder training; or are simply looking for something that is neither the gym nor therapy.

The other side deserves saying too. Qi Gong is not the right choice if you want rapid weight loss or conditioning - neither is coming. It is not a substitute for treatment; if something hurts enough that you think about it at night, the first stop is a doctor, not a training hall. And it is not magic: once a week changes little, twice a week over three months changes a noticeable amount.

What actually changes

The breath first. Most people breathe shallowly, into the chest, and do not notice until someone points it out. After a few weeks that drops lower on its own, outside the hall as well.

Then posture. Not because anyone tells you to straighten up, but because you start to feel where the body collapses and correct it before it hurts.

And last - the thing people mention most often - the difference in how quickly you settle after a hard day. The stress does not disappear. The time it takes to come out of it does.

What it costs

Monthly training twice a week is 69 €, a three-month block 189 €, a single class 15 €. A ten-visit card at 129 € makes sense if your schedule is unpredictable. Prices are listed in full on the site, with no joining fee and no open-ended contract.

If you are unsure, come to one class. It is the only way to find out whether it suits you - a description of something that happens in the body is always worse than the thing itself.
