How many private sessions do you need for something to shift

One hour solves one thing. That is often enough.

People rarely ask about the number of sessions directly, because it sounds like haggling. They ask it differently: “how long will it take?”

The answer depends on what you want to achieve. Here are honest ranges, based on what we actually see.

One hour

Enough for one specific question. Why my knee hurts in this movement. Why I always run out of breath in this form. Why I cannot get lower in this stance.

In an hour we find the cause and you leave with one or two exercises that address it. That is usually all you need - and the reason many of our students take one hour a year and nothing more.

One hour is not enough for general improvement, for learning a form, or for starting training from scratch.

Three hours

The standard package for entry. Three hours across three or four weeks are enough to:

  • set a basic stance and weight transfer,
  • learn a short sequence from beginning to end,
  • understand what in your body needs the most attention,
  • join a group without feeling like the only person who does not know where to put their hands.

For complete beginners who find a group daunting, this is the most sensible investment. After three hours most people move into the group and need no private hours for months.

Six to eight hours

Worth it in three situations.

After an injury. Returning after surgery or a long break needs more supervision until we both know what the body tolerates.

With chronic pain. Here the work is not on one thing but on a pattern, and a pattern needs more supervised repetition.

With a specific goal and a deadline. Preparing for a grading, a demonstration or an event.

In all three, the spacing between hours matters more than the number. One hour a week is optimal; two a week is waste, because the correction has nowhere to settle.

Progress is not measured in hours but in what remains after them.

When more hours will not help

This is the most important part of the piece.

If you do not train in between. A private hour points the direction. You do the work, between hours. Ten hours without home practice give less than three with it.

If what you need is motivation. A private hour is a poor tool for that. A group is better and cheaper.

If the problem is fitness. Fitness is built by volume, not by precision. For that you need more hours of training, not more expensive ones.

If you expect fast changes in mobility. Tissue adapts over months. No number of hours speeds that up.

It does not matter how slowly you go, so long as you do not stop.

How it looks in practice

Our students tend to fall into three groups.

Occasional. One hour whenever a question appears. Once or twice a year. This is the most common pattern.

Entry. Three hours at the start, then the group. A private hour returns after six months or a year.

Regular. One hour a month, long term, alongside group training. The smallest group, usually people with a medical restriction or a very specific goal.

How to decide

Do not decide in advance. Take one hour, see what shows up, and decide after that.

If after the first hour we judge that you will achieve more in a group, we will say so. If we judge that you need three or eight, we will say that too.

Private hours run at Ziherlova 44 in Ljubljana, with daytime and weekend slots by arrangement.
