Among our most persistent students are couples. Not because they are more motivated, but because training in pairs is structurally more resilient: when one of them does not feel like it, the other goes anyway - and the first follows.
We run private hours for two as well. This piece explains what they look like and who they are for.
Why training in pairs works
- Built-in accountability. A slot two people hold is far harder to cancel than one you hold alone.
- A shared vocabulary at home. When both of you know what “drop the shoulders” or “weight to the middle of the foot” means, the practice continues outside the hour.
- A partner for drills. A large part of Kung Fu is done in pairs. With a consistent partner you progress faster.
- Economy. One hour, two people. The cost per person is considerably lower than a private hour.
- Shared time that is not in front of a screen. For many couples that is the main reason, and a perfectly good one.

Working with two different bodies
The most common worry: “we are completely different, he used to be an athlete and I never was.”
That is not a problem but a working method. The same technique is taught in different ranges: one takes a lower stance, the other a higher one; one adds speed, the other precision. The content of the hour is identical; the load is not.
In practice the less athletic of the pair often progresses faster on technique, precisely because they cannot fall back on strength - which tends to be a healthy surprise for a relationship.
The soft overcomes the hard. The gentle overcomes the rigid.
What an hour looks like
Five minutes of review. How it has been, what you did at home, what hurts.
Fifteen minutes of shared warm-up. The same sequence, adapted depth.
Thirty minutes of main work. Part solo, part in pairs. The partner drills are what make this format worth it - from pushing hands to simple techniques with resistance.
Ten minutes of winding down. Together, with the emphasis on breath.

What the relationship learns
This is not the point of the hour, but it happens often enough to be worth mentioning.
Partner drills demand cooperation under mild pressure. One pushes, the other yields; one leads, the other follows; both have to read how much is too much, without words. Anyone who has ever argued with a partner about who is not listening to whom will recognise something here.
You also see your partner in a position where something does not work for them. That is a rarer experience than one might think, and a surprisingly useful one.
Who this format is for
Couples with different fitness levels. Because load is adapted individually, nobody waits and nobody chases.
Two friends with the same goal. Works as well as a couple, sometimes better.
A parent and a teenager. One of the few activities where an age gap is not an obstacle to training together.
Couples whose schedules do not fit group classes. We arrange the time around yours, not ours.
What it is not
It is not a self-defence course for couples and it is not therapy. It is Kung Fu or Qi Gong training done by two people instead of one.
Nor do you both have to want the same thing: one of you can work mainly on Qi Gong and mobility while the other works on technique. The hour can be run that way.
Practicalities
One hour, at the hall at Ziherlova 44 in Ljubljana, or outdoors by arrangement. We fix the time around your schedule, mornings and weekends included.
Write and tell us what you both want to achieve and when suits you - and if your goals diverge too far, we will say so in advance.
